Robert L. Rickman, a founding equity partner of Mayer, has over 25 years of experience representing clients in employment disputes and has achieved the select distinction of being Board Certified in Labor & Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.

In addition to his advocacy work, Rob has recently expanded his practice to include mediation, having earned certification in mediation from The University of Texas School of Law. This training allows him to serve as a neutral facilitator in alternative dispute resolution, helping parties constructively explore settlement options and resolve disputes outside of traditional litigation.

As the leader of the Firm’s employment practice group, Rob’s experience covers the full spectrum of employment law, including non-compete and trade secret disputes; discrimination lawsuits arising under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and the Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA); wage and overtime claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act; and leave of absence and workplace safety matters under the Family Medical Leave Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA). Rob also guides employers through audits and inspections from the Department of Labor, Texas Workforce Commission, and OSHA, and counsels employers on day-to-day HR practices, handbook policies, and employment agreements.

Rob’s employment litigation skills have helped him serve clients in a wide range of complex business disputes, including breach of contract, indemnification disputes, shareholder derivative actions, and trademark and copyright infringement claims.

His mediation builds on this litigation experience. As a certified mediator, he helps parties and counsel navigate complex disputes through structured negotiation. Drawing on his experience handling employment, business, and commercial conflicts, Rob guides discussions toward practical resolutions that manage risk and reduce the time and expense associated with protracted litigation. For information about Rob’s mediation services and availability, please contact his office here.

While his experience is not limited to any particular industry, Rob has developed significant depth representing clients in the retail/restaurant/hospitality, healthcare, and transportation industries.
