Prior to joining Mayer, LLP, Stephen was with the Firm of Smith, Cohen & Horan, PLC in Fort Smith, Arkansas for twenty-three (23) years.  Stephen spent nineteen (19) years as the Managing Member of Smith, Cohen & Horan, PLC.  As the Managing Member of a commercial transaction and litigation law firm, Stephen not only engaged in a productive law practice but also handled the day-to-day management of the Firm’s business.

Being an attorney who has to run a ‘law’ business has allowed Stephen to gain a complimentary understanding of commercial transactions and litigation in order to handle matters for clients that range from collecting accounts receivables; to representing clients in responding to EEOC and OSHA inquiries; to assisting clients with large scale corporate refinancing; to assisting clients with Estate matters following the loss of a loved one.

Admitted to practice in Arkansas and Missouri, Stephen has and continues to handle cases in both state and federal courts throughout Arkansas and Missouri.

Originally from Fort Smith, Arkansas, Stephen was recruited and played college tennis for Villanova University in Villanova, PA.  Stephen graduated from Villanova in 1999 with a degree in Political Science and a concentration in Irish Studies and Irish History.  Following Villanova, Stephen obtained a Juris Doctor and Master of Studies in Environmental Law from Vermont Law & Graduate (formerly Vermont Law School).

When not at the office, Stephen enjoys being with his wife and two children, being in the garden or fishing from his kayak and trying to stay competitive on the tennis court.
