Leah Shover is an accomplished civil litigator with extensive experience defending individuals, businesses, and insurers in complex matters throughout New Mexico. She possesses a thorough command of both state and federal court procedures. Her practice currently focuses on defending medical professionals and institutions.  Her experience also extends to a broad range of complex litigation, including personal injury claims, premises liability, employment discrimination, civil rights claims, construction defect cases, and breach of contract claims.

Ms. Shover has served as lead counsel in numerous cases, conducting depositions of fact witnesses, expert witnesses, and corporate representatives. She has drafted and argued dispositive motions, overseen discovery in multi-party disputes, and managed all phases of litigation from initial case evaluation through appeal. Her extensive writing experience includes mediation statements, cross-complaints, settlement agreements, and in-depth legal analysis reports.

Ms. Shover began her career in 2009 as a prosecutor with the Second Judicial District Attorney’s Office where she gained valuable first chair trial experience in domestic violence and homicide cases. Prior to working at Mayer LLP, Ms. Shover worked for local and national law firms, including an AmLaw 100 firm where she was a partner. Most recently, Ms. Shover served as Assistant General Counsel for one of the nation’s largest skilled nursing and long-term care providers. She takes great pride in defending medical professionals and hospitals because her father is a pediatric gastroenterologist and her brother is a surgeon.  Ms. Shover currently handles all aspects of litigation including discovery, motions practice, mediation, and trials. Ms. Shover’s successes include summary judgments granted, motions to dismiss granted, and a recent complete defense jury verdict which saved her client millions of dollars.

In her spare time, Ms. Shover enjoys spending time with her family and Frenchies. She also enjoys attending concerts, cooking, and playing pickleball.
