Josephine “Josie” Ayson is an Associate Attorney in Mayer LLP’s Dallas office. Her practice focuses on insurance defense, transportation litigation, and personal injury matters. She represents insurers, businesses, and individuals throughout Texas in all phases of litigation, including discovery, depositions, motion practice, mediations, hearings, and trial.

Josie’s experience on both the plaintiff and defense sides of litigation provides her with a practical and well-rounded perspective when evaluating claims, assessing risk, and developing litigation strategy. Before focusing her practice on insurance defense and transportation-related matters, she represented personal injury plaintiffs. Later Josie handled commercial litigation matters involving contract disputes and business torts on the plaintiff and defense side.

A Dallas native and first-generation attorney, Josie earned her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with a minor in Criminal Justice, from the University of North Texas before earning her Juris Doctor from South Texas College of Law Houston.

Outside of work, Josie enjoys spending time with her husband, Jon, their daughter, Catalina, and their two cats, Milo and Bluey. She always has an audiobook queued up and enjoys unwinding with a good movie or finding her next binge-worthy television series.

Community Involvement

While in law school, Josie was an active member of the Hispanic Law Student Association where she served as the Pro Bono Ambassador from 2020 to 2022.

As Pro Bono Ambassador for the Hispanic Law Students Association at South Texas College of Law Houston, Josie organized and promoted community service initiatives that connected law students with meaningful volunteer opportunities. One of her most meaningful projects was organizing an elementary school outreach event at a school serving a predominantly minority and lower-income student population. Through a mock trial program, law students introduced fifth-grade students to the legal profession and the justice system.

The experience was especially rewarding because it mirrored the program that first sparked Josie’s interest in becoming an attorney when she was a fifth grader growing up in a similar community. Being able to provide that same opportunity to students whose backgrounds reflected her own was a full-circle moment and reinforced her commitment to mentorship, community service, and expanding access to the legal profession.

Currently, Josie is active in the Dallas Bar Association, where she serves on the Pro Bono Law in Schools Committee. She also serves as the 2026 Chair of the Student Symposium, an event that is hosted by this committee every year.
