Ericka was a Presidential Award Recipient at St. Mary’s University. She graduated Summa Cum Laude, and first place in the School of Liberal Arts, from St. Mary’s University with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science.
After earning her undergraduate degree, Ericka attended St. Mary’s School of Law where she earned her Doctorate of jurisprudence . While in law school, she was a double octa finalist and fourth round best speaker in the Jenkins & Gilchrist Annual First Year Mock Court Competition. She also worked with St. Mary’s Center for Legal and Social Justice program to provide free legal services to those in need throughout the San Antonio community. After completing the program, Ericka served as a teaching assistant to the Director for St. Mary’s Center for Legal and Social Justice. She has since served multiple times as a judge in mock trial competitions and as a mentor for law school students at St. Mary’s University. In addition to practicing law, Ericka taught as an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Law at Northwest Vista Community College. She was named a “Rising Star” in the San Antonio legal community from 2013-2015, one of Texas’ Outstanding Young Women Lawyers in 2019, and an Outstanding Woman in Law in 2022.
Ericka is a Senior attorney in the San Antonio, Texas, office with over a decade of experience handling administrative and civil litigation matters. Her practice focuses on defense of first and third-party civil litigation and personal injury claims. She is licensed to practice law in the State of Texas, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, and the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas. She served as a board member for Child Advocates of San Antonio (“CASA”) from 2005-2006 and is member of the St. Mary’s Alumni Association, the Mexican American Bar Association, and the San Antonio Young Lawyer’s Association.
Ericka was raised in a single parent home in San Antonio, Texas, and became a young mother at the age of 16. She began her education at the community college she would eventually teach at, thereafter earning a full academic scholarship to St. Mary’s University. She supported herself through college and law school while raising her son. She understands and has a deep appreciation for hard work, dedication, and fair play.
Ericka was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and comes from a very large and proud Hispanic family. She proudly became an American citizen in 2019. She was raised in a bilingual and bicultural environment and speaks, reads, and writes Spanish fluently. Ericka is most passionate and proud of her friends and family, her husband, Jesse, her son, John, and her dog, Charlie. She enjoys reading and spending time outdoors with them, especially near the water.
