Born and raised in England, Colin R. Hatcher emigrated to the USA in 1995 and graduated from Santa Clara Law School, California, in 2001. He was admitted to the California Bar in 2002 and the Texas Bar in 2008. Colin’s legal career has focused on insurance defense for major insurance companies, including Farmers, State Farm, USAA, Geico, Carolina Casualty, Liberty Mutual, Progressive Insurance and The Hartford.

As outside counsel, Colin specialized in defending catastrophic commercial 18-wheeler accidents, wrongful death claims, and other large loss claims, including devastating falls, landlord-tenant disputes, and mold and fire claims. Additionally, he has experience defending Texas workers’ compensation claims statewide, both subscribers and non-subscribers.

Before joining Mayer, Colin served six years as a Senior In-House Counsel for Progressive Insurance in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He joined Stewart Law Group as a partner in January 2022 where he managed the firm’s substantial insurance defense docket, litigating commercial premises liability, construction defects, and catastrophic workplace accidents.

Colin has a reputation for extensive and comprehensive legal knowledge, detailed and precise research and writing, thorough analysis and accuracy in claims evaluation, charismatic oral presentation before a jury, and a calm demeanor both in and out of court.

Colin majored in theater and literature and is a practicing martial artist of 47 years. He is married and has four children.

  • Served as a lead investigating attorney for a major national commercial trucking insurance company, spearheading a rapid response investigation and evidence preservation team for catastrophic commercial 18-wheeler accidents and other catastrophic commercial accidents.
  • Served as a lead investigating attorney for multiple City Housing Authorities, investigating mold and other habitability issues in City housing disputes as well as private landlord-tenant disputes.
  • Served as a lead investigating attorney for multiple Homeowners Associations, investigating construction issues in housing development disputes.
